ARLINGTON, Va. — The Marine Corps has announced an overhaul of Military Specialties Manual in which hundreds of nonprimary specialties have been renumbered.

Nonprimary MOSs are skill-sets which Marines have in addition to their primary specialties, said Randy Webb, of Training and Education Command.

The changes are intended to group related nonprimary MOSs together in a logical manner, Webb said.

Most Marines will not be affected by the MOS manual changes, which do not affect primary MOSs, he said.

The changes also do not mean any Marines will receive less money, Webb said.

In addition to renumbering a number of nonprimary MOSs, the changes also delete 53 unmanned and obsolete nonprimary MOSs, Webb said.

For example, one nonprimary MOS deleted is naval gunfire spotter, which the Marine Corps no longer needs because it has shifted away from using naval gunfire, he said.
