YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — A Saturday power outage will shut down most South Post facilities from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to Area II Support Activity officials.
The Korean Electric Power Co. needs the planned outage to work on the power grid. The work is aimed at avoiding repeats of recent base power outages, Area II commander Col. Ron Stephens said during a radio talk show last month.
On Saturday, all people must bring two photo identifications with them to get into South Post gates.
The South Post commissary and other businesses will be closed all day. But Area II officials, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, and the local Morale, Welfare and Recreation office are planning activities and places for people to seek entertainment and air conditioning:
The Dragon Hill Lodge and its businesses will remain open with power.
The movie theater will run on a backup generator, showing “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” at 9:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The Bowling Center and Moyer Community Services Center will be places for “power refugees” to keep cool during the day.
The Main Post Club will feature a ribs and chicken barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The club also will offer bingo from 1 to 4 p.m. and at night, all-you-can-eat crab night for $21.95.
The South Post outdoor swimming pool will also be open.
