ARLINGTON, Va. — The head of Multi-National Corps-Iraq has completed his review of an investigation that looked into whether Marines tried to cover up the deaths of 24 Iraqis in November 2005 in Haditha, an MNC-I news release said Friday.
“Lt. Gen. Peter Chiarelli completed his findings and recommendations today and forwarded copies of the report to the Commander, Multi-National Forces-Iraq,” the brief news release says.
The news release did not say what Chiarelli’s findings or recommendations were, nor did it provide information on the contents of the investigation, conducted by Maj. Gen. Eldon Bargewell.
MNC-I did not respond to a Stars and Stripes request for more information by deadline.
In other news, the Marine Corps has announced that commanders should hold onto all documents pertaining to the alleged Haditha incident and a separate incident at Hamdania because Congress will likely hold hearings into the two incidents.
