YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — A summer employee at Yokosuka Naval Base was in Japanese police custody Wednesday after being arrested and accused of using and importing illegal drugs.
Aaron Michael Killion, 21, is a civilian worker at the base’s swimming pools. A police report alleged that he possessed LSD soaked into a piece of paper.
Military authorities initially handled Killion’s case, according to a Commander, Naval Forces Japan news release.
The Navy took Killion into custody Saturday.
On Monday, Killion was barred from base. He was escorted off without incident about 6 p.m., according to the CNFJ release.
Killion was arrested 15 minutes later by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police in Yokosuka, according to a police spokesman.
The Japanese police referred the case to the Yokohama District Public Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, he said.
U.S. military authorities notified the Japanese police as per the U.S.-Japanese Status of Forces Agreement, a CNFJ spokesman said.
Japan has primary jurisdiction in the matter, he said.
“The Navy has a zero-tolerance policy towards importation or use of controlled substances by any personnel, military or civilian,” the CNFJ release stated.
