U.S. forces will cease operations at the Yumurtalik Sea Terminal in Turkey, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday.
Deemed an “excess to the U.S. Air Force Europe’s needs,” the terminal’s jet fuel receipt point facility will be returned to Turkey as part of the U.S. European Command force realignment and transformation. The move will affect one U.S. servicemember and two local employees.
As with all stationing changes, the decision was made in cooperation with Turkish officials before the public announcement was made, the release stated.
A public affairs officer for the 39th Air Base Wing at Incirlik Air Base said it is not known when the facility will be handed over.
