What are some of your job duties?

Assist the doctor in surgery, manage patient transportation from inpatient ward to the preoperative holding area, manage staffing assignments, maintain supply levels as needed for operating rooms, assist with decontamination, packaging and sterilization.

How did you train for this job?

I trained at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, for eight weeks and went to my Phase II site at Fort Eustis, Va., for my hands-on training for another eight weeks.

Had you ever volunteered in a hospital or clinic before joining the Army?

No.

What made you decide to join the Army?

I joined the Army so I can serve my country and travel to different countries.

The toughest part of your job would be?

Trying to hold and retract four different instruments at difficult angles when I only have two hands.

Describe the perfect day.

The perfect day will be if I win the lottery.

What won’t you deploy without?

My iPod.

Your favorite comfort food?

Pizza.

What kind of person would be good as an OR tech?

Someone who can multi-task, anticipate the surgeon’s needs, a people person, someone with initiative to do things on their own.

What type of person should try to avoid the work at all costs?

Someone who does not like the sight of blood.

What’s the best present you’ve ever received?

A puppy.

The best present you’ve ever given?

$500 to my mother.
