Eagle 810 outages scheduledYOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Eagle 810 AM radio will experience sporadic program interruptions this spring due to scheduled antenna maintenance on its transmitting site in Tokyo, American Forces Network officials said.

Daily broadcasts, however, still can be heard on base cable systems that carry a different signal, according to Marine Gunnery Sgt. Timothy McGough, operations superintendent for AFN Tokyo at Yokota. The work started March 13.

“It’s not going to be every week. It all depends on when the contractors and maintenance workers get out there,” McGough said. “It’s basically during daytime hours, usually from 7:30 [a.m.] to 4:30 [p.m.], and only affects the radio, so you won’t be able to hear us in the car, office or home. But we’re still broadcasting and still doing shows.”

Officials set aside 15 days in March and 15 more in April to conduct the maintenance. He said AFN hopes to be back to its 50,000-watt capacity by the end of spring.

“We apologize for the inconvenience … but the maintenance has to be done,” McGough added. “If we don’t do it now, it’ll be worse in the long run.”
