The Navy will reconvene promotion boards for commander on April 7, the Navy has announced.
In February, the O-5 active-duty promotion board was disbanded after it was discovered that one of the members had obtained written material not approved by the Navy Secretary.
The Navy has declined to say what the material was or who distributed it.
“That is part of the investigation,” said Navy spokeswoman Cmdr. Lydia Robertson in an e-mail to Stars and Stripes.
The new board has to review 3,640 officers, Robertson said.
“The board will reconvene and start completely from scratch — new board members, new records review, etc.,” she said.
No promotion delays are expected, Robertson said.
Vice Adm. John C. Harvey Jr., chief of Naval Personnel, said he is committed to the integrity of the promotions process.
“Even the possibility of irregularity is enough to disband a board,” he said via e-mail. “The process and everyone involved in it must be completely above reproach. It’s that important.”
