YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The 374th Airlift Wing was scheduled to launch another Operational Readiness Exercise on Sunday. The exercise would be Yokota’s second in a little more than a month.

Although base officials have two Wing Readiness Inspection Weeks planned for February to maintain preparations, this is considered the final full-scale tuneup ahead of a major inspection by Pacific Air Forces in March.

More than 3,000 airmen will tackle various scenarios designed to test Yokota’s ability to perform its wartime mission. The scenarios are generated by the base’s inspector general team — which will make evaluations throughout the weeklong drill, slated to end Friday.

A noncombatant evacuation drill is scheduled for Monday. Other functions under scrutiny this week may include the wing’s ability to deal with simulated base attacks and other unusual events under adverse conditions while delivering personnel and cargo. Airmen’s capacity to provide basic self-aid and buddy care also will be emphasized.

The south overrun on Yokota’s runway, normally closed to regular traffic for the duration of an exercise, instead will be shut down only as required by the base commander, according to Capt. David Westover, a 374th Airlift Wing spokesman. However, the Kanto Express base shuttle will become the Warrior Express for a week, available only to ORE participants.
