CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — U.S. military police early Sunday apprehended a 16-year-old Okinawa girl who allegedly sneaked onto Camp Courtney and was seen searching cars in an apartment tower parking lot, according to Okinawa police.

An Okinawa police spokesman said a resident of the military housing complex spotted the girl acting suspiciously around cars in the parking lot and alerted military police at 12:30 a.m.

She was taken into custody, questioned and then handed over to Okinawa police in Uruma City at 6 a.m.

The police spokesman said the girl, who was not named because she is a juvenile, admitted to jumping over the fence with several friends to steal items out of parked cars.

Late Sunday evening, an 18-year-old accomplice, also a juvenile under Japanese law, was apprehended, the spokesman said.

Both juveniles are being held in the Uruma City police station pending an investigation into charges of trespassing and theft.

Other suspects are being sought, the police spokesman said.
