KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa — Starting Feb. 1, all Air Force personnel in the Pacific will have to go online to view their leave and earnings statements.

Pacific Air Forces officials are eliminating the distribution of paper copies of the statements, cutting down on paperwork. The statements are one of several services offered by myPay, the Internet counterpart provided by the Defense Finance Accounting Service — https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx.

“It’s our time to make the change,” said Capt. Rob Tyls, financial services officer, 18th Comptroller Squadron at Kadena Air Base. “All the servicemember needs is access to a computer and the Internet. It’s that simple. MyPay is a valuable and easy-to-use tool for customers and the system is user-friendly.”

The LES is a comprehensive statement of a servicemember’s leave and earnings showing entitlements, deductions, allotments and accumulated leave.

More than 2 million customers now use DFAS’ myPay service.

According to Tyls, myPay provides an easy, secure method for managing pay account information. It’s available around the clock, allowing customers to view their LES online, print out their statements and make changes to their savings and allotments.

It also eliminates the hassles of having to make unnecessary visits or calls to the local disbursing office.

Tech. Sgt. Nick Cody, of Kadena’s 718 Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, is one of myPay’s customers. He said signing up for myPay was simple and the system is customer-friendly.

“I verified my leave balance in a matter of seconds,” Cody said.

According to the DFAS Web site, strong encryption and other security measures make myPay safe to use and protect personal information from unauthorized access.

Servicemembers who don’t have a myPay personal identification number can request one from the disbursing office or by clicking on the “New PIN” button under “Need a PIN” on the DFAS Web site, Tyls said.

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service is the world’s largest finance and accounting operation. In fiscal 2002, DFAS paid 5.7 million people, processed more than 11.2 million contractor invoices, made 7.3 million travel payments and disbursed more than $346.6 billion while reducing overall costs to customers by $144 million.

For questions related to myPay or assistance in obtaining a myPay PIN, servicemembers should visit their local disbursing office or call DFAS customer support at 1-800- 390-2348.
