About 800 members of the D.C. National Guard have been deployed to sites across Washington, with early appearances at Union Station and on the National Mall. The Pentagon said the service members have been deployed to help federal agents and D.C. police crack down on crime. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Aug. 11 federalizing local police forces and activating the D.C. National Guard. Other states have also pledged to deploy troops to the nation’s capital.
