In 1915, as part of its new alliance with the Ottoman Empire, Germany built the Halbmondlager Prisoner of War camp during World War I. The camp was “home” to soldiers of diverse militaries, nationalities, ethnicities and languages. They all had one thing in common: their Muslim faith.

The camp is the focus of a new online exhibit from the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
