The transition into autumn typically brings with it the opportunity to enjoy a whole new series of cultural outings, as the playbills of operas and theaters are filled with premieres of promising new performances. But what if the traditional forms of more or less classical entertainment don’t really do it for you? Consider attending a performance of a much less traditional genre. Here are just a few alternative things that will be on offer in the months to come.

Rock and performance art: The Blue Man Group, known for its unique form of entertainment combining art, music, comedy and state-of-the-art technology, will offer its latest show titled “Bluevolution” in Düsseldorf (Mitsubishi Electric Halle; Oct. 5-8) and Frankfurt (Festhalle; Oct. 13-15). In this show, the by-now-familiar three bald blue characters are accompanied by “The Musician,” a female character with an alien appearance who replaces the traditional band as a multi-instrumentalist. The show is described as a mix of new twists accompanied by their trademark antics to include water whirlpool drumming, marshmallow throwing and paint spitting. The lowest price of tickets available at the time of this writing was 59.40 euros. Online: tinyurl.com/47ym8jr2

Wrestling: In October, World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE) will bring its roster of superstars to four German cities. Those in attendance will see fan favorites to include Cody Rhodes, “The Ring General” Gunther, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Rhea Ripley, The New Day , Liv Morgan, Shinsuke Nakamura, Raquel Rodriguez, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens alongside many others. WWE-Live show cities include Munich (Olympiahalle; Oct. 25), Cologne (Lanxess Arena; Oct. 26) and Hamburg (Barclays Arena; Oct. 27). The fourth event, an exclusive “WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event,” is slated to take place in Berlin (Mercedes-Benz Arena; Oct. 28). Ticket prices begin at 47.75 euros. Online: eventim.de/artist/wwe/

Puppetry: “No Strings Attached” is the name for a group of creative types dedicated to the art of puppet theater. From Oct. 29-November 4, residents and visitors to the city of Mainz can enjoy a series of performances taking place as part of the “Compass Europe: Westward” festival. Each performance will highlight a different form of puppetry. On Oct. 29, Neville Tranter’s Stuffed Puppet Theater from the Netherlands presents “King Ubu,” (in English) a comic play about base instincts, greed and the abuse of power. Oct. 31’s show, a version of Les Misérables (in French with German subtitles) as interpreted by the Caryatides Company from Belgium, features nativity figures, cheap statuettes, plastic dolls and cardboard houses. On Nov. 2 and 3, viewers will be carried away by “A Handful Of People... Something Like Luck,” (in English and French) described as object theater as interpreted by a French ensemble known as The Vélo Théâtre. On Nov. 4 and 5, the Tall Tales Company from the Netherlands offers “Square Two,” (in English) a special kind of city walk through Mainz and along the Rhine. This artistic experiment between Nouveau Cirque and visual art offers juggling, acrobatics and more at eight stations scattered across town. The Mainzer Kammerspiele serves as the venue for the performances, all of which are geared toward adult audiences. Tickets for the city walk go for 5 euros, while those for the other performances go for 24 euros. Online: no-strings-attached.de.

Symphonic Rock: On Nov. 10, Wiesbaden’s Kurhaus will rock to the sounds of artists including Pink Floyd, Queen, Deep Purple, Metallica, AC/DC and others as part of a show titled “Rock the Opera Volume III.” The groups’ well-known hits take on an entirely new dimension when performed by a symphony orchestra.
