From roller derby to riesling: your weekend plans in the KMC start here

Summer festival season is in full swing across the Kaiserslautern Military Community, and this weekend offers a little bit of everything. Whether you’re looking to sip, snack or cheer from the sidelines, here’s where to find the action Friday through Sunday.

Wine in the Park: Kick off summer with the region’s biggest wine celebration in Kaiserslautern’s Volkspark on Friday at 6 p.m., continuing all weekend. Dozens of wines, live music and delicious food options make this a can’t-miss gathering. Free admission.

Flammkuchen Fest: Dig into crispy, wood-fired flammkuchen and French treats at this cozy food festival in Trippstadt’s Schlosspark on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Al fresco dining, local wine and live music set the mood. Free admission.

Roller Derby: Celebrate 15 years of hard hits and high energy with a roller derby doubleheader at Kaiserslautern’s Unisport complex on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. Tickets are 5 euros in advance or 7 euros at the door. Kids under 10 get in free. The after-party at IYKYK, K-Town’s newest LGBTQ+ bar, keeps the fun rolling.

Wine Festival: Sip wines in a charming courtyard during this laid back festival at Weingut Ökonomierat Lind in Rorbach on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. Expect regional fare, live bands and a relaxed countryside vibe. Free admission.

Heidelberg Castle Light Show: Watch Heidelberg Castle glow red in a dramatic nod to its fiery history on Saturday around 10:15 p.m., with fireworks right after. It’s one of the most Instagram-worthy nights of the summer. Free to watch.

Fisherman’s Festival: Feast on trout, regional specialties and live music at this lively fest in Idar-Oberstein on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Live bands and kids’ activities make it a full-day affair. Free admission.
