May Festival: Sip local wines, stroll through a lavender garden, and enjoy fair games and live entertainment at this laid-back festival in Maikammer, Friday from 4 p.m., Saturday from noon, and Sunday from 11 a.m. Sunshine, scenic views and a wine glass in hand: What more could you ask for? Free admission.
Gem Hike: Discover hidden treasures on this guided gemstone-spotting hike starting in Idar-Oberstein, Friday at 11 a.m. It’s a sparkling adventure for curious minds and nature lovers alike. Cost is 15 euros for adults and 5 euros for children.
Straw Hat Festival: Soak up the sounds of 50 bands and browse more than 100 tents and food stands at the largest street festival in Rheinland-Pfalz in Frankenthal, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Don’t miss the crowning of this year’s Miss Straw Hat. Free admission.
Opera Performance: Experience the power of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly in Kaiserslautern, Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m at the Pfalztheater. A night of heartbreak, beauty and soaring music awaits. Tickets start at 42 euros. The performance will be in Italian with German and English subtitles.
City Festival: Cheer on a wild duck race and catch live shows at this lively street party in Bad Dürkheim all weekend starting at 11 a.m. It’s quirky, it’s loud and it’s packed with wine route joie de vivre. Free admission.
