If you’re not kicking off the summer season by attending one of the many Memorial Day ceremonies in the region, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate the long weekend in style.

From festivals and food to live music and mountain views, here’s what’s happening in the Kaiserslautern Military Community from Friday through Monday.

May Fair: Buckle up for thrill rides, sizzling bratwurst and flowing beer at this high-energy folk festival on Messeplatz in Kaiserslautern on Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 10 p.m. The biggest folk festival in the region packs in carnival fun, vendor stalls and fairground nostalgia. Free admission.

Thai food festival: Feast on fiery noodles, mango sticky rice and more during this flavor-packed street fest in Kusel on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Expect more than 20 food stands, Thai boxing shows, cultural dances and live music. Free admission.

NonkiCon 2025: Dive into the world of anime, cosplay and J-pop at this fan-fueled convention in Speyer on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. From artist alleys and voice actors to showstopping costumes, this is a weekend built by fans for fans. Tickets are 22 euros.

Culinary hike: Sip, snack and stroll your way up the highest mountain in Rheinland-Pfalz during this scenic hiking adventure starting in Albisheim on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eight tasting stations serve up local wines, rustic eats and live music all the way to the Donnersberg summit. Free admission; wine pass is 10 euros.

Summer concert series: Kick back with bold brass and breezy melodies during this open-air concert at Volkspark in Kaiserslautern on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Jettenbach Music Society will lead the audience into the summer “with musical verve.” Free admission.
