Expect loud music and traffic delays tomorrow beginning at 4:30 p.m. due to a counter-demonstration scheduled by local political alliance Kaiserslautern Against the Right. The rally will run concurrently with a state election campaign event for the political party Alternative für Deutschland, or AfD, which is scheduled to begin Friday on Stiftsplatz at 5 p.m., according to the party’s website. A Kaiserslautern Against the Right social media post states the counter-demonstration will begin at the Kaiserslautern main train station and follow a route down Bahnhofstrasse, Eisenbahnstrasse and Marktstrasse before stopping at the square in front of Stiftskirche for an interim rally at 5:10 p.m.
The demonstration will then move to Schillerplatz, where the alliance plans to give a speech at 5:30 p.m., followed by two DJ sets. The demonstration is expected to conclude at 7 p.m. Die Rheinpfalz reports that Kaiserslautern police will be present as a precautionary measure and are prepared for the possibility of a high number of participants.
