The new senior enlisted leader for the Defense Department’s largest overseas hospital has a background in mental health support and Christian counseling.
Command Sgt. Major Jorge Oquendo took over for Command Sgt. Major Omar Mascarenas at a change-of-responsibility ceremony Thursday at LRMC.
Oquendo was previously the senior enlisted leader for the 30th Medical Brigade at Sembach. He graduated from advanced individual training as a mental health specialist at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and also holds a master’s degree in Christian ministry, according to his Army biography.
Mascarenas is retiring after a 32-year career with the Army.
