Trains between Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens, as well as Pirmasens and Zweibrücken, are suspended starting Friday at 9:30 p.m. due to a staffing shortage, Deutsche Bahn announced.
Additionally, the route from Landau to Pirmasens will see the last train from Landau at 8:41 p.m. canceled.
The affected trains include RB 12835, RB 12801 (Kaiserslautern – Pirmasens), and RB 12940, RB 12942 (Saarbrücken – Zweibrücken – Pirmasens).
Service is expected to resume Saturday at 6 a.m. The disruptions stem from a lack of necessary personnel to operate electronic signal boxes, according to the service. Further cancellations are anticipated across the region due to a sudden increase in staff illness, affecting several lines in Vorderpfalz and Rhein-Neckar areas.
In the Kaiserslautern area, this is expected to affect two S2 line trains between Kaiserslautern and Neustadt, individual trains in the Pirmasens – Landau area, and the Ramsen – Eisenberg – Grünstadt route.
“DB Regio is currently still working on reducing the number of impending train cancellations by rescheduling shifts,” service officials said in a statement Friday. ”If further staff are absent, the dispatchers will have to reschedule again.”
Travelers are advised to check the DB Navigator app for real-time updates and alternative routes.
