German police on Sunday arrested a 52-year-old American who is suspected of killing his wife.

The 34-year-old was found dead in her apartment in Reichenbach-Steegen on Sunday morning by her 6-year-old son, police said.

The investigation led police to the woman’s husband, who was arrested in the afternoon in Rutsweiler an der Lauter without resistance.

Neither the suspect nor the victim had any connections to the U.S. military, Westpfalz police said Monday.

The suspect will be brought before an investigating judge, and an autopsy is planned. The child is safe and is being cared for, police said.
