Police arrested a man at a Kaiserslautern shopping center on Monday. (German police)
People in a shopping center on Merkurstrasse could have been in for a scare Monday afternoon after a store employee saw a man who he thought had a firearm in his waistband entering the store. The police were notified, and officers located the suspect in the store. They arrested the 33-year-old man, but he did not have a gun in his pocket. He was actually carrying a coat hanger, cables and various plastic parts wrapped in black tape, which looked like a pistol. The suspect did have two colored pencils with him, which police think he stole from the store. Because there was a warrant out for his arrest in another matter, the police arrested the man and took him to a correctional facility.
