The public outdoor pool season kicks off on May 18, with Warmfreibad opening as scheduled, Kaiserslautern city officials announced Tuesday.

Due to construction delays, the historic Waschmühle won’t open until at least June 8.

Persistent wet weather in March and April hindered maintenance at Waschmühle, including joint renewal and concrete repair, pushing the opening date back, officials said in a statement. The recently installed flood valves have mitigated recurring water pressure issues from the nearby Eselsbach creek.

Once these tasks are completed, the 70-year-old pool will receive a fresh coat of paint and be filled with water, a process that will take approximately three weeks.

Warmfreibad’s diving pool will remain closed for one to two weeks post-opening due to incomplete tiling work caused by the same weather delays.

The city’s sports department recruited enough staffers to cover nearly all full-time positions required for normal pool operations, though significant staff absences could still affect service, the city said.

Warmfreibad’s hours are Monday from noon to 8 p.m., after morning cleaning, and Tuesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Waschmühle’s hours are Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m., and Wednesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Season ticket presales start May 16-17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at both pools. Waschmühle’s sales continue Monday to Friday from noon to 6 p.m. until it opens.

On May 13, the city council approved a price increase. Waschmühle’s adult season tickets now cost 65 euros, with single tickets up from 3 euros to 3.50 euros. Warmfreibad’s season ticket prices remain the same, but single tickets will rise from 4.10 euros to 4.50 euros.
