The cause of a Thursday night house fire in Katzweiler, a village about 12 miles northeast of Ramstein Air Base, is under investigation, Kaiserslautern police said Friday.

A 23-year-old resident noticed flames in a room on the upper floor and tried to put them out himself, sustaining minor injuries, which were treated on site, police said. The other occupants escaped uninjured.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control. Damage estimates are in the six-figure range, police said.
