Several ATMs in a bank on Bahnhofstrasse in Kaiserslautern were tampered with Tuesday morning, according to city police. Authorities initially suspected explosives may have been left behind at the scene, but they gave the all-clear late Tuesday morning.
Witnesses noticed unusual activity at the machines around 4:30 a.m. and alerted police. The suspects broke into some of the ATMs and fled. The crime scene was cordoned off and a neighboring drugstore, town hall and a daycare center were cordoned off as a precaution, police said.
The cordon has since been lifted. Police believe at least four suspects are on the run and may have fled in a dark-colored Audi. Witnesses are asked to call Kaiserslautern police at 0631-369-2620.
