A camel standing on the side of the road might not be out of place in some parts of the Arabian Peninsula, but in Kaiserslautern? A full-grown dromedary was seen on Entersweilerstrasse on Tuesday afternoon, prompting motorists to call police. Turns out the “ship of the desert” had escaped from a nearby circus that was taking down its tents. After being returned to the circus, the camel saw another chance for freedom during an unwatched moment and took off. This time it pulled down a part of a tent, letting other animals escape. With the help of food as bait and some assistance from the police, the animal keepers were able to capture the escapees and their brief adventure was over.
