Sudden strong winds caused disruptions in Westpfalz on Monday evening, knocking down trees and signs, and blowing tables and chairs from a café into a nearby pedestrian zone.

Most trees fell onto roads without causing damage. But one tree fell and brought down a telephone line between Hauptstuhl and Landstuhl, according Westpfalz Police. The line, which was not electrified, was quickly cleared by road services, reopening the road.

The situation calmed by late evening, with police reporting few storm-related incidents thereafter.

Today’s weather in the region remains unsettled with windy conditions, scattered showers, and isolated thunderstorms. Gusts and isolated gale-force winds are possible, weakening towards evening, according to the German Weather Service DWD. Temperatures are expected to remain cool to very cool, ranging from 39F in higher elevations to 54F along the Rhine.

The coming days will continue to see variable to overcast skies with showers and thunderstorms, especially on Wednesday, and potential sleet or snow in higher areas. Temperatures will gradually warm to between 48 and 54 degrees, with cooler conditions persisting in elevated regions.

By Thursday, weather conditions are expected to vary, with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms, DWD predicts.

Temperatures will peak between 50 and 55 degrees. Winds from the north will remain mild to moderate. Overnight into Friday will see increasing cloudiness from the northwest, but remain mostly dry with temperatures dropping near freezing, especially in higher elevations.
