Landstuhl Regional Medical Center had several of its employees wondering if they’d be able to leave their jobs on time Wednesday afternoon, when it closed all gates in and out of the base. Some patients also were advised of an unspecified delay.

Shortly after the closure Wednesday, K-Town Now asked LRMC why they effectively locked down the base without prior notice.

On Thursday, Defense Health Network Europe said that “in accordance with routine protocols, LRMC briefly closed installation access points yesterday while confirming personnel accountability.”

When asked for clarification, they provided the following response:

“In this instance, it’s the standard meaning of accountability: confirming the presence of necessary personnel. This was not an emergency situation and no one went missing. LRMC was able to complete accountability quickly, and the gates were briefly closed for approximately half an hour.”
