1. FC Kaiserslautern dropped down to 16th place Saturday after losing at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-1. The Red Devils got off to a good start in front of 46.210 spectators at Fritz Walter Stadium, with Marlon Ritter scoring the 1-0 in the 26th minute on a right-footer, off a Kenny Prince Redondo assist FCK had a couple of other scoring possibilities but went into halftime with the lead. Both sides traded scoring chances in the second half before Fortuna landed a one-two punch, scoring in the 74th and 76th minutes. Düsseldorf secured the win with another goal in the 86th minute. The Red Devils now sit in the second division relegation spot, with 29 points, one ahead of Rostock, and a direct drop to the third division. Kaiserslautern plays their German cup semifinal in Saarbrücken Tuesday night, before heading to Hamburg for a 1 p.m. Saturday game against HSV. One cup side note, there will be more spectators watching the game through so-called public viewing at Fritz Walter Stadium Tuesday, than there will be at the sold-out Ludwigspark in Saarbrücken, due to its smaller capacity.
