Three children damaged a car after throwing a cast iron cover from the parking deck of K in Lautern mall Thursday, Westpfalz police said. Using witness reports, officers tracked down two 12-year-old boys and an 11-year-old girl. The children reportedly threw the cover weighing more than 2 pounds from a height of nearly 60 feet onto Maxstrasse, where it hit the hood of a VW Tiguan. The 35-year-old driver was not injured but was in shock. Since German law prohibits the prosecution of minors under 14, police will not pursue criminal charges, Westpfalz police said in a statement. Police did not state if the children reported any motive for their actions.
