Police search German-American teenager’s home in Rodenbach, seize airsoft guns

Westpfalz police searched the apartment of a German-American teenager in Rodenbach on Sunday afternoon, after he posted what officials called “suspicious images” online.

The 14-year-old shared multiple pictures of what appeared to be weapons on a social network, prompting a police search of his family’s home, Westpfalz police said in a statement Sunday.

Officers seized two airsoft guns identified during the search, according to officials. Although the weapons were confiscated, they were not considered a threat to public safety, police said in the statement.

Depending on the air pressure applied, airsoft weapons can fall under Germany’s strict weapons control laws and may require an applicable weapons permit.

Police also advised the teen and his guardians on his misconduct online, according to the statement.

Officials did not immediately state whether the family has military ties or if U.S. military police were involved in the search.
