Anne of Green Gables still casts her spell on Prince Edward Island

For many, a trip to Prince Edward Island is an homage to “Anne of Green Gables,” L.M. Montgomery’s 1908 novel about a red-haired orphan who falls in love with the island’s windswept beauty. It costs only a few hundred yen to explore Tokyo’s Fukagawa Edo Museum, a carefully reconstructed neighborhood from the late Edo period (1603-1867) — a time when samurai strolled the streets and merchants sold rice and vegetables out of wooden storefronts.
