Somewhere in South Korea, Jan. 5, 1962: Pvt. Thomas E. Linardy, 1st Platoon, A Company, 2nd Battle Group, 12th Cavalry Regiment, takes a smoke break as he waits for orders from his platoon leader. Men of the 12th Cavalry Regiment participate in a month-long Army training test. The training, which began Jan. 2, is held in the mountain areas of South Korea where the cavalrymen honed their skills in varied terrains such as jungles and expansive open agricultural paddies.
