A woman dances on stage.

(Stars and Stripes)

Quang Nai, South Vietnam, April 1963: Geri Griffin, a softshoe dancer, dances on stage as men of Military Assistance Advisory Group and members of the U.S. 25th Infantry Division gaze at her. Her stage? The top of two trailers, with an outdoor spotlight to illuminate her act.

Soft shoe dancing is — according to Encyclopedia Brittanica — “a relaxed, graceful dance done in soft-soled shoes and made popular in vaudeville.” Sadly, Stars and Stripes’ archivists were unable to find any information on Ms. Griffin.
