Gnjilane, Kosovo, Nov. 18, 2000: lirit Ahmeti, left, and Ismajl Imeri, two young Albanians from the town of Gnjilane, near Camp Monteith, play an impromptu soccer game in front of a local grocery store. The sign, “Thank you America” was painted on the wall shortly after Albanians returned to Kosovo at the end of the air war against Yugoslavia, and reflects the opinions of many locals who hail the U.S. troops as saviors.
