Mekong Delta, South Vietnam, July 1962: Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam walk across a canal on a bamboo footbridge in the Nhon Ninh area in Long An province, led by an unnamed U.S. military advisor. The troops’ mission was to weed out reported Viet Cong, but although they found plenty of evidence of VC activity in the form of spike mines, road blocks and fortifications, the men returned empty handed after the 12 hour operation.
