Paratroopers in the sky seen descending from the ground.

Da Nang, South Vietnam, Aug. 15, 1968: The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) paratroopers and skydivers demonstrate their skillful jumping on Da Nang river. The colorful event, part of ARVN I Corps’ 11th anniversary activities, was witnessed by thousands of citizens and dignitaries. On assignment in Da Nang for the ceremony marking the anniversary, Stars and Stripes photographer Kim Ki Sam decided to use some color film and shoot some scenes of the ceremony in color. News photography at the time was still mostly shot in black and white, so finding color film in the Stars and Stripes’ photo archives is always a treat.
