Tokyo, Japan, Sometime in 1958: Stars and Stripes staff writer Millard “Corky” Alexander types out the news dictated to him over the telephone. Alexander worked as a staff writer and assistant city editor for Pacific Stars and Stripes from 1957 to 1962.
He would go on to co-found the Tokyo Weekender together with fellow S&S staff writer Susan Scully (nee Dibble) (1965 to 1967). The magazine, which saw its first issue roll of the press Feb. 13, 1970, still publishes today.
