Binh Chau, Vietnam, August 1964: Under the watchful eye of local children, U.S. Army Special Forces Sgt. Joe E. Jasper visits a Vietnamese village while serving as an adviser to a Vietnamese Strike Force on a five-day patrol in search of the Viet Cong. “You travel as light as you can,” Jasper said of the long patrol. “After a while, a book of matches feels like a pound.”
