Da Nang, South Vietnam, Aug. 15, 1968: President Nguyen Van Thieu talks with female Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) troops during a ceremony marking the 11th anniversary of the ARVN’s I Corps. The Women’s Armed Forces Corps — part of the ARVN — was created just a year earlier and counted over 2,700 women, with the majority of them working as nurses and administrative clerks.
