Mosul, Iraq, Aug. 22, 2010: Iraqi soldiers stand over a suspected insurgent nabbed with the help of U.S. forces. The last brigade of U.S. combat troops left Iraq just four days earlier, on Aug. 18, and all U.S. combat operations in the country ended that month. While the Iraqi military has made strides fighting the country’s simmering insurgency, most of the U.S. troops remaining think it is nowhere near ready to defend the borders.
