Kandahar province, Afghanistan, Dec. 29, 2008: Staff Sgt. Jeff Ackerman, 41, of Houston, peers through a pair of binoculars, looking at a possible bomb site near the village of Mama Karez, as 1st Lt. Dan Grant, 25, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and an Afghan interpreter look on. Soldiers with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment had moved into a nearby camp to try and disrupt Taliban activity in the area.
