London, England, July 29, 1981: The Prince and Princess of Wales return by carriage from their wedding ceremony at St. Paul's Cathedral. It was estimated that a million people lined the 2.2-mile route from the cathedral to Buckingham Palace, hoping to see Charles and Diana ride past.

Prince Charles, now King Charles III, acceded to the throne on Sept. 8, 2022, upon the death of his mother, Elizabeth II. The official coronation of the King and his wife, Queen Camilla, takes place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday. Although the tone of the coronation is expected to be more demure than the King's first wedding was, the first coronation of a British royal in more than 70 years will still draw a considerable crowd along the procession route from Buckingham Palace to the abbey.
