Berlin, Germany, Feb. 27, 1969: A group of women wave at President Richard Nixon’s motorcade from the balcony of an apartment building. Berliners came out in droves to welcome the U.S. president, whose motorcade slowly snaked through the divided city. Although some protest against the visit occurred, Stars and Stripes reported at the time that “the demonstrators were insignificant compared to the enthusiasm of the thousands of others.”
