Tokyo, Japan, August 1956: With no elevators available to move inventory from one floor to the next, workers at an Army furniture lending warehouse pass items up and down between floors. Warehouses in the Tokyo area provided U.S. service members and their families not only with bigger items such as sofas and rugs but even with smaller home furnishings such as lamps, dishes, draperies and silver.
