The Navy has relieved the commanding officer of its Los Angeles area recruiting efforts, the service said in a statement Friday.

Cmdr. Adam K. Pendleton was dismissed Thursday as commanding officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group Pacific, one of 26 offices across the country that manage recruiting of new sailors.

Pendleton was removed by his commanding officer Capt. Robert L. Moran of Navy Recruiting Command Region West.

No specific reason was given for Pendleton’s removal beyond a typical statement used by the military when a commander is fired — “due to a loss of confidence in his ability to fulfill the responsibilities as commanding officer.”

“Navy commanding officers are held to high standards of personal and professional conduct,” Lt. Cmdr. Richard Parker, public affairs officer for Navy Recruiting Command, said in a statement. “They are expected to uphold the highest standards of responsibility, reliability and leadership, and the Navy holds them accountable when they fall short of those standards.”

The Navy did not release information on a reassignment for Pendleton. A previous Navy statement said Pendleton is a native of Los Angeles who enlisted in the Navy in 1993. He served as an operations specialist aboard the USS Coronado in San Diego from 1993 to 1997. Pendleton was commissioned as an officer in 2004. He earlier served at the Navy Recruiting Command Headquarters in Millington, Tenn., and was executive officer of the Pacific office prior to becoming the commanding officer.

The service said Capt. Tommy Edgeworth, deputy commodore of Navy Recruiting Command Region West, had assumed duties as NTAG Pacific commanding officer.

Navy Talent Acquisition Groups are divided geographically into West, Central and East commands, though all three are located at the national recruiting command in Millington. Rear Adm. Alexis “Lex” Walker is the commanding officer.
