GROTON, Conn. (Tribune News Service) — U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney announced Tuesday that the Navy has awarded Electric Boat a $532 million contract to provide lead yard support, development studies and design efforts for Virginia-class submarines.

With potential modifications, the contract could bring $813 million in work to Electric Boat over the next year.

In a press release announcing the contract Courtney who is the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee on Seapower and Projection Forces, said the contract represents additional investment on top of a previously awarded contract in 2019, and allows EB to maintain development efforts on Virginia-class submarines.
