The commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Centralized Service Desk was temporarily relieved by the service on Tuesday.
The Coast Guard said via a press release Lt. Cmdr. George O. Ziwortin had been relieved due to loss of confidence, without adding further details. The phrase “loss of confidence” is commonly used by the military to avoid specifics when personnel are relieved of command.
Lt. Kevin Garcia has assumed temporary command of the desk.
The service said the temporary turnover is not affecting CSD’s capabilities. Based in St. Louis, the CSD provides information technology and electronics support for about 400 Coast Guard systems, supporting everything from ship radios to VPN connections.
