(Tribune News Service) — An Army recruiter is accused of performing sex acts with teenagers he met on high school campuses, Texas officials say.

Marcel Ian Moreno, a 25-year-old New Braunfels resident, was arrested June 6 at the Fort Sam Houston military base in San Antonio, the New Braunfels Police Department said in a June 9 news release. Moreno is charged with sexual performance of a child, which is a felony, and was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and Army criminal investigators, police said.

McClatchy News reached out to military officials but didn’t immediately receive additional information.

According to the department, Moreno’s arrest comes after an investigation by police and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division “into allegations that (Moreno) used his role as a recruiter ... to have an intimate relationship with a 17-year old female that he met while on campus at a recruiting event at New Braunfels High School.”

The investigation also revealed two additional victims, both of whom Moreno met while recruiting at high schools, police said.

Investigators believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to contact police at 830-221-4100.

“Additional charges may be pending, and the U.S. Army is fully cooperating with the ongoing criminal investigation,” police said.

Moreno was booked in Bexar County Jail and was released after posting a $50,000 bond.

New Braunfels is a roughly 30-mile drive northeast from San Antonio.
