A soldier found dead last week in his barracks at Fort Meade in Maryland has been identified as Pfc. Paul-Anthony Varner of San Antonio, Texas, according to a garrison news release.

Varner, 25, was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 741st Military Intelligence Battalion, 704th Military Intelligence Brigade.

He was found unresponsive by a fellow service member and pronounced dead in his room at Freedom Barracks on Wednesday, the release said.

There was no immediate indication of self harm or foul play. The Army Criminal Investigation Division is investigating.
